the quality of life is more important than life itself.

with enya we got in contact with barbara and her greyhounds. my husband felt in love with this breed and it was just a question of time that a greyhound puppy came to us. enya became her big aunt and enya got a little play mate. the name we found for this puppy was “viola d’amore”. i linked this words to lovely flowers and to love. harry thought about a rare and precious musical instrument. both of us ignored the third meaning. viola is a latin word and means “casualty”, too.
soon we noticed that injuries are a main topic in violas life, she lost no opportunity to hurt herself. some situations where really grotesque – like the bite of a snake in dezember – some where just serious like her broken hock. although she started to shiver during every visit in a clinic, she was a brave and cooperative patient. again and again she struggled through rehab.
she was living and breathing for “lure”. at the track she was entirely happy. she was living and breathing for harry. if he had asked her for it she would have been walking through fire and water for him.
half a year ago an avulsion fracture stopped her racing career suddenly. surgeries and rehab again. she learned to handle her stiffened left hind leg and to stand, walk and trot with four legs. than she could share the walks with her pack mates again. osteopathic treatment helped her to manage her asymmetric body.
now she did an unlucky sprint and smashed her ligaments in the right hind leg. all asked vets avoided to answer the question if her left hind leg could stand the procedure or they answered “rather no”. amputation is no option to us. 6 surgeries, some x-rays and uncounted month of rehab in 5 years are enough. now she can run free with enya and her beloved litter mate v. ikarus behind the rainbow bridge without any pain.
thank you so much for being with us!
